Neil Gaiman is a brilliant narrator of his own writing. This novel has a unique mixture of adventure, horror, humor, brutality, fantasy, and wisdom, each of which Gaiman handles equally well.

Great if you like adventure fantasy. The audio book is a special treat because the author reads it - and he knows exactly how each character is supposed to sound.

AMAZING. Neil Gaiman is unparalleled, both as an author AND as a performer. He reads his own work with a charm and style that will make you laugh, even while he terrifies you with the most magical, frightening parts of London Below.

Escape to Lower London in this richly imagined tale about folks who seem to have 'fallen through the cracks' in life.

If you've been wanting to read Gaiman and don't know where to begin, start here!

This is, IMHO, Gaiman's best book, and no author reads their own work as well as he. His world-building is impeccable, his storyline is imaginative and unique—with just enough violence to make threats seem real without gratuitous gore.

I love the character development and evolution in this book. Some victories and some defeats, all great story telling.

After listening to The Ocean At The End of the Lane I believe Gaiman may be my favorite narrator. He straddles fanciful with the logical and makes the internal voice of every child in his stories instantly relatable. I recommend giving any of his stories a try in audio format.

A fun tale revealing parallel worlds--the real world of London and a fantasy underworld--with twists and turns that help readers appreciate the mystique of their imaginations as well as the grounding of our seemingly banal lives. This is like a grown-up version of Gaiman's "Fortunately, the Milk," written for a younger audience. Also, I love hearing Gaiman narrate his stories!

Wow. I am not sure how to describe this wonderful book. I have never been much of a fan of the fantasy genre, aside from the Harry Potter series, so I was quite surprised to love this story as much as I did. The author's narration was top notch, the best I think I have ever encountered in an audiobook, so it's hard to say how my enjoyment of the book was derived from simply hearing such a talented storyteller vs the plot itself. I think I actually developed a wee bit of a crush on Gaiman if the truth be told..........

The characters were very well developed and the plot quite original IMO. I will definately check out his other titles

I tried to listen to this book in the car. The problem is that the author who reads the book lets his voice drop at the end of almost every sentence. In order to hear the quiet words over the engine noise, the volume has to be turned up so that the words at the beginning of the sentence are too loud. So, I gave up before the first cd was finished.

What a refreshing mind you have, young man. There really is nothing quite like total ignorance, is there?

“Sir. Might I with due respect remind you that Mister Vandemar and myself burned down the City of Troy? We brought the Black Plague to Flanders. We have assassinated a dozen kings, five popes, half a hundred heroes and two accredited gods. Our last commission before this was the torturing to death of an entire monastery in sixteenth-century Tuscany. We are utterly professional.”
Mr. Croup
