Esta pelicula me transporto a un mundo donde la intolerancia y la falta de compasion limita la identidad de cada individuo. Altamente recomendada.

Venezuelan drama written and directed by Mariana Rondon. Takes place in the squalor of housing projects in 2013 Caracas, with background propaganda occasionally apparent in the form of images of Che, Fidel, Lenin, Chavez, etc. (even radio news in background describing someone murdering and dismembering his mother as a sacrifice for Chavez' recovery). Story centers on a 9-year old gay boy whose widowed mother is very resistant to his orientation. Boy wants to straighten his hair to look like a movie star, his grandmother supports him in this desire, etc. Mother is attractive with anger management issue who does what she has to to regain her job as a security guard, having apparently lost it because of her anger. Very atmospheric film, as characters travel about Caracas, spend time in variety of apartments with neighbors, etc. Lots of grinding poverty but resilient people. Acting is excellent, not only by mother, son but also grandmother (great musical performance), son's girlfriend.
Some sex scenes involving mother. Good subtitles.

The acting was very good - but the movie was really a bummer - the writers chose to show only the darkest & worst aspects of human nature. We all know that the life can be hard & the world rotten, but it's not rotten 24/7 - day in day out forever... the sun does shine every so often - but not in this movie.
