The subject is quite interesting, WWII in England, and the characters presented, especially Kitchen- is wonderful, but to me what stands out is Horowitz's handling of social problems and acceptance of personal responsibilities. I admire his presentations. Ethics appear to be very important, although IMO government control of housing and healthcare is wrong. As a bonus entertaining. I should like to see more beyond this series.

One of the best series I have ever watched. I could continue to watch it with new episodes but Foyle had to retire as well. He could have a good sucessor with continuing episodes.

Hated to see this series end. One of my all-time favorites. Lots of historical accuracy and great characters. Superb acting.

Bittersweet dark ending on a great historically accurate series. Co-worker willing to pay ultimate price on a weaseling so-called friend gave Foyle pause if he really belong in the intelligence service.

Wow! A TV series we totally enjoyed.
The stories, complicated and unpredictable, were all interwoven, and in the end - but not until the end - always all wrapped up and the case(s) solved - usually in the way you least expected it, but making total sense. The actor playing Detective Foyle does an amazing job. Very often he didn't say a word, but we could tell what he was thinking just from his expressions. Other times he delivered gut-punching lines ("I've figured out what you did and how you did it") with a perfectly straight face.
For us it was eye-opening, learning about WWII from the English point of view. There were many thought-provoking topics as various characters consider what would be the best course of action, and experience character-building events in their lives. I love learning something while being entertained.
Other reviews mentioned lack of captions; we watch everything with captions (although the actors in this series speak clearly enough for us to understand them better than most with an accent different from our own), and I believe there are now captions on all discs in every season of this series.
So sorry to have come to the end of this series - we're having difficulty finding other series of such quality to watch (so much better than what TV has to offer in recent years).

"High Castle". The War may be over but that's only on the battlefields with guns, tanks, airplanes. Now the powers that be are fighting for control of the world. Oil is the big player. Foil is not a policeman per se but he is no less the investigator. His former driver Sam is married and unaware of just how fragile her hold of life is when she agrees to go undercover in the house of an oil company magnate. Episode 2, "Trespass" is one of the more interesting Foyle. There has seemingly always been anti-Jewish sentiment. In 1948 the State of Israel was created and somehow has survived through the decades since. Some people in Britain are interested in ending the ability of Israel to exist as a state and are willing to take out the Jewish people through murder inside Britain. It sickens me to see the Godless hate in them. A well written and well acted episode. Sam means well but she sometimes has little common sense. Stay in the car means stay in the car. "Elise", the last episode and possibly the most painful one to watch. Foyle's War started in 2002 and ended 2015. I read budget concerns were the nails in the coffin. I will miss this quality of programming. So much depended upon establishing a relationship with its' stars. They are growing older too.
