A psychedelic dive into an absurdly romantic sort of Lovecraftian horror with an ending that resolves. The final arc of Spurrier's X-Men Legacy had me turning pages breathlessly; I felt like it was paced like a runaway train, and I was clinging onto the side. I loved it, and I loved the solution to the series' major question: how can David keep himself from destroying the Marvel universe (again, permanently this time)? The resolution is simple, without being easy, and everyone gets something out of the deal.

The one bitter seed at the core of this story is that the ending sets up a fascinating new status quo for both David Haller and Ruth Aldine, only to see it ignored for years and kicked aside in 2018 and 2019. If you read this with the understanding that (as of this writing) no one's bothered with a meaningful follow-up that actually acknowledges What Happens At The End Of This Book, you'll be in good shape.
