It would have been better if it were only 2-3 years and if Brad Pitt could do a convincing accent. Part of the "Tibet Fever" of the 90s. Also see "Kundun," Richard Gere, and the Tibetan Freedom Concert.

What a sad story, which made it hard because we know what happens to Tibet. But it was great to learn a lot of the story was based on reality! Sometimes reality is much more fantastical than fiction...

5 stars. Based on a true story of Heinrich Harrer and his lifelong friend the (exiled today) Dalai Lama. Looking past the bad accent of Brad Pitt, this was a beautiful movie of the peaceful Tibetans.

This movie is very timely given the recent opposition from China to our Prime Minister's visit with the Dalai Lama (?sp). Wonderful scenery, fantastic story
